Becky has been involved with dogs all her life. In 1980 she purchased her first Alaskan Malamute, Chinook CD WTD, and was active in sledding, conformation, obedience, and weight pull. She became interested in Portuguese Water Dogs in 1982 when attending a show in Los Angeles and met some beautiful dogs. Becky would spend time with breeders in Southern and Northern California assisting at shows, helping to show the dogs and talking about history, temperaments and health. She looked far and wide to purchase her first PWD and found a beautiful breeding in Montana at Roughrider Kennels. In 1987 CH Roughrider Pescador de Toraq CD, known as Mickey came to live with her and the rest is history. Becky has done tracking, scent work, obedience, agility, rally, sledding, weight pull, water work, confirmation and rafting with her dogs. She raised her 7 children with the dogs and loves the temperaments she has worked to produce. Her children have helped whelp litters, show, groom and train dogs. Becky is an active member of the Portuguese Water Dog Club of America (PWDCA), a Charter member of the Portuguese Water Dog Club of Northern California (PWDCNC), and a Breeder of Merit with the American Kennel Club.
Toraq is a small hobby kennel that has puppies occasionally. We place dogs based on what is best for the puppy and the new owner dependent on temperament and energy level of the puppy. We encourage owners to engage in any and all activities with their puppies including basic obedience. Our puppies are sold on a contract from parents that have been fully health tested per the PWDCA guidelines. Puppies are raised in the home with a lot of holding and socialization.
